Q: According to researchers in OH, one of the fastest growing segments on the internet is this. What?

A: Online dating for Seniors.

OVER 60s ARE BIG ONLINE DATERS: According to figures, one of the fastest growing segments to tap into internet dating is the over 60s. Researchers highlight while most are looking for 'mates, dates or a relationship' many elderly singles are merely looking for companionship. Lead researcher Dr Wendy Watson, from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, U.S. said: 'We are finding that older adults appear to market themselves differently on online dating sites than younger adults. Gone is the focus on appearance and status. We believe that over 60s appear to be more interested in honest self-representation and being compatible rather than discussing areas such as sexual prowess and nightlife. We also found the language of older people's online ads was different when describing themselves and what they were looking for in a relationship. Terms such as 'young at heart' and 'active' were used to show physical fitness and good health.' (Telegraph)

Serious injuries to pedestrians using headphones have more than tripled in the past six years, according to a review of accident cases by researchers at the University of Maryland. "Everybody is aware of the risk of using cell phones and texting in automobiles, but I see more and more teens distracted with headphones in their ears," says lead author Richard Lichenstein. Q: New research suggests that if a man wants to be truly happy, he has to do this. What?

A: Make sure his wife is happier.

Seemingly forever, new husbands have been warned to honor the adage: "If mama ain't happy, then ain't nobody happy." Now researchers have shown that the old saying is only half the story: If men want to stay wed, they must make sure that mama's always happier than they are. If husbands become more satisfied with their lives than their wives, the so called "happiness gap" will eventually cause the couple to divorce, say economists at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. After crunching data about thousands of couples in three countries, the researchers determined that the happiness gap grew wider when women did most of the housework. It also expanded when the couple came from different social backgrounds or when they raked in higher than average salaries. Furthermore, the disgruntled wife was the one most likely to file for divorce. But the gap closed when the wives and husbands come from the same backgrounds or shared the same religion. Surprisingly, the gap also narrowed if the women were housewives, students or retired.

Q: According to a new survey doing this for 10 minutes at a time can ruin your self-esteem.

A: Looking in the mirror

Looking in the mirror is bad for your self esteem. New research shows volunteers who gazed at their reflections for up to ten minutes at a time gradually became more and more anxious and depressed about their looks -- even if they were happy with them to start with. Even 'healthy' participants started to show signs of distress and anxiety about their own body image after staring at their own images for several minutes at a time. According to some surveys, women stare in the mirror around 38 times every day and men 18 times a day. Studies show women are much more critical of their appearance than men and much less likely to admire what they see in the mirror. (Daily Mail)

Q: When it comes to this. Women are more organized, but men are still better at doing it. What is it?

A: Grocery shopping.

MEN ARE BETTER AT GROCERY SHOPPING THAN WOMEN: When it comes to supermarket shopping, men are better than women at browsing and buying. Despite being organized shoppers, women dislike crowds, feel rushed at the checkout and are always shocked at the price of their purchases. In contrast, three quarters of men quite enjoy their food shopping experience and are happy to navigate their way around the aisles searching out products. Men are less forgetful about what they want to buy, are less likely to feel rushed by the cashiers and are more methodical at the checkouts. The authors of a new study explained, 'Men seem to adopt a much more laid back and methodical approach, taking their time looking for bargains and make sure they're getting the most for their money.' Q: If you’re feeling low simply do this and your spirits will lift. What?

A: wash your hands w/warm water and soap.

If you're having one of those days when you feel a little low, wash your troubles away. Literally. University of Michigan researchers have determined that just washing your hands with warm water and plenty of soap not only cleans your hands, but also your psyche--making you feel better. "Cleansing is about the removal of residues," said study leader Spike W.S. Lee. By washing the hands or even thinking of doing so, "people can rid themselves of a sense of immorality, lucky or unlucky feelings, or doubt about a decision. The bodily experience of removing physical residues can provide the basis of removing more abstract mental residues."

Q: People who do this in their 30’s have more health problems than people who do it later in life. What?

A: Divorce.

DIVORCE IS WORST FOR PEOPLE IN THEIR 30S: People who divorce when young suffer more damage to their health than those who split up later in life. Researchers revealed that going through a divorce caused health to decline, with those aged between 35 and 41 at the time of the split more affected than those who were born at the same time but were older when their marriage ended. The study, published in the journal Social Science & Medicine, also found a difference in how the generations are affected by divorce, with those born in the 1950s finding it harder to deal with than those born ten years earlier.
